NEW YORK - A new platform for fans of Olympic sport is here to bring century-old athletic competition to the eyes of the next generation.

The ‘World 1 League’ is a new social-media-driven sports league founded by former Olympians that will look to give Olympic-style competition a bigger stage on platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

While many USA fans are prepping to bet on the Olympics, the World 1 League potentially invites bettors to wager on a whole new platform of competition. The company will host online competitions in standard athletic events like track and field, weightlifting, swimming, and other sports that are commonly only seen at the Olympics.

Athletes can submit videos for the league via TikTok and Instagram and then compete against others in easily consumable content produced and packaged by the World 1 League.

“TikTok and Instagram are generating and engaging worldwide audiences in numbers far greater than the major TV networks. There’s no better medium to develop and introduce a new sports league.” said Brett Morris, co-founder and CEO of the World 1 League.

The league has received major attention due to its newest millionaire backer, Dallas Mavericks owner and famous business mogul Mark Cuban. Cuban has previously worked with Brett Morris and is the leading investor for the project.

The World 1 League has the hopes of bringing more attention and money to athletes who don’t compete in one of the major team sports in the USA. The goal for W1L is to one day host their own live events and earn their athlete’s video sponsorships.

Historically, Olympic athletes have struggled financially due to the huge amount of time required to compete at the peak level of their sport. Too many of these Olympic sports are not monetized properly, meaning that many of the best athletes in the world are struggling to make ends meet once their short athletic career reaches its end.

The idea is that this new league could bring more attention and potential opportunities for these athletes when they aren’t preparing for the next Olympic Games or World Championships.

If the league is able to establish a viewership, it is likely only a matter of time before Olympic betting odds are available for W1L competitions.
