Any wagers made on the 2020 Summer Olympics will be void should the events be canceled at any point before they begin.

TOKYO – As the Coronavirus cases rise amongst those involved with the Olympics in Tokyo, Toshiro Muto, the President of the Olympic Organizing Committee has said there could still be a cancellation of the events only two days before the official start of the games.

"We have agreed that based on the coronavirus situation, we will convene five-party talks again. At this point, the coronavirus cases may rise or fall, so we will think about what we should do when the situation arises," said Muto on Tuesday. "We can't predict what will happen with the number of coronavirus cases. So, we will continue discussions if there is a spike in cases.”

Any Olympic gambling already done by players would be refunded by sportsbooks should the competitions not take place.

Will The Olympics Still Be Held?

There has been news circulating that a very last minute canceling of all of the games could occur. Olympic Officials and Government Officials in Tokyo will be meeting to get the up-to-date statistics on the Coronavirus. Japan is hoping to stop a fourth wave of COVID-19 from impacting their country.

However, Olympic betting odds will remain on sports betting platforms until any announcements of cancellations are formally made.

On Wednesday, Tokyo had a total of 1,832 new Coronavirus cases, the largest number they’ve seen in months.

"What we have worried about is now actually happening," said Toshio Nakagawa, President of Japan's National Medical Association. "The surge in cases has been expected whether we have the Olympics or not, and we are afraid that there will be an explosive increase in cases regardless of the Olympics."

Over 70 of those cases so far have been either athletes or personnel affiliated with the 2020 Summer Olympic Games. A number of sponsors, including Toyota, have opted out of the opening ceremonies, much to the surprise of the Japanese government. With sponsorships and athletes, as well as locals falling victim to the Coronavirus Pandemic, will the Olympic Games be next?

Touch And Go

Although the opening day of the Tokyo 2020 Summer Games doesn’t begin until Friday, the Olympic news continues to pour in by the hour. At the moment, everything is set to start the closed competitions with alternates being used in place of any athlete that is quarantined, but there is still an air of uncertainty if the games will be held in their entirety or if cancellations will occur before then.

"I really want to apologize from my heart for the accumulation of frustrations and concerns that the public has been feeling towards the Olympics,” said Seiko Hashimoto, co-president of the organizing committee.

The Summer 2020 Olympics are still slated to begin on Friday from Tokyo when the Opening Ceremony is broadcasted.

The city of Tokyo has officially declared a state of emergency due to COVID rates just three weeks before the start of the Olympic Games.

No spectators of any kind will be allowed to attend the Games. Previously, domestic fans were set to attend the competition.

TOKYO – News has officially broke Thursday that there will be no spectators of any kind at this year’s Tokyo Olympics.

The city of Tokyo officially declared a state of emergency after their COVID-19 infection rates reached their highest levels since mid-May.

Japanese officials declared the state of emergency this week that will take effect on Monday and run through August 8, spanning the entire duration of this year’s Olympic Games.

The International Olympic Committee had already made the decision to ban international spectators from attending the Games, letting only domestic Japanese fans fill the stands.

Now, no spectators of any kind will be able to attend the Games, leaving athletes who have worked their entire lives for this honor without the proper in-person support they deserve.

Seiko Hashimoto, the head of the Japanese Olympic Committee said that organizers have “no choice but to hold the Games in a limited way.”

The decision does not come without reason. Tokyo reported 920 new infections Wednesday which is the highest daily caseload since May. With more infected people walking around and new variants of the diseases popping up, the health of the athletes is the most important thing on the minds of the IOC.

So how could these new regulations affect those looking to bet on the Olympics?

Well for one, those looking to back the Japanese teams across all sports will now be rooting for a team without fan support in the stands. With only domestic fans in the stands, it was expected that the only spectators in the audience would be very pro-Japan over the majority of the events.

Without that support, the odds for the Japanese team are expected to change in the coming days.

Currently, Japan’s total medal line is sitting around 32.5 Gold medals at the Olympics via the Olympic online sportsbooks.

Japan Total Gold Medals

Over 32½ Medals -105

Under 32½ Medals -135

Total medals for the Japanese team sits at 59.5, with the under as the -140 favorite.

Japan Total Medals

Over 59½ Medals +100

Under 59½ Medals -140

Those looking to bet on the under for these lines should consider locking in their picks before the odds skew more against Team Japan. Having fans in the stands is a key contributor to team morale, and it is only a matter of time before the sportsbooks adjust to this change.

Emperor Naruhito of Japan is concerned about hosting the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo because of the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Over 80% of the athletes and anyone else involved with the competition will be vaccinated by the beginning of the Games.

The 2021 Summer Olympics is set to begin on July 23 with the Paralympics beginning on August 24, also in Japan.

TOKYO – Emperor Naruhito of Japan is very hesitant to host the 2021 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, fearing a further spread of the Coronavirus, the Imperial Palace reported on Thursday.

There is exactly one month left until the torch is lit, signifying the beginning of the Olympics Games. The country has been speaking out with their concerns, urging for another delay of the event which originally was supposed to be held in 2020 or an overall cancellation.

The issue most are having is due to the fact that many people from all over the world will be coming to Japan to compete. More than 80% of the athletes and those involved in the Olympics will be vaccinated by the time it all begins on July 23.

Tokyo will also be hosting the Paralympics that is scheduled to begin on August 24.

What’s Concerning Japan

It’s not mandated that everyone be vaccinated to compete in the Olympics. However, Japan is asking everyone to please take every possible measure available to contain COVID-19 and not create a fourth wave of the Coronavirus for the country.

"His majesty is extremely worried about the current situation of the COVID-19 infections," said Yasuhiko Nishimura, grand steward of the Imperial Household Agency. "While there are voices of unease among the public, I believe the emperor is concerned that holding the Olympics and Paralympics may lead to the expansion of the infections."

The Olympics will look a little different this year with COVID-19 still looming. This will affect everything from how the events are held to Olympic betting odds because not every athlete in the world that is known to be the best for each sport will be competing. We all know that a popular event in the Summer Olympics involves hurdles but the pandemic is giving that category a run for its money with the number of hurdles Japan and all of the athletes competing have had to jump through to get to this point.

"In order to overcome this challenge, it is important for all of us, in and outside of Japan, to bring our hearts together and cooperate," said Emperor Naruhito.

The Emperor was expected to open the Games, however, those plans have yet to be made official due to the health concerns of COVID-19 and the safety of the 61-year-old’s own health.

Moving Forward

Japan and the competitors are all readying themselves for the Tokyo 2021 games set to begin on July 23. Sportsbooks across the U.S. have started listing a few wagers on the events.

The 2021 Olympics is expected to be on track, ironically enough as that’s an event to be seen during the Games, to start on time this year. Anyone interested in wagering on Tokyo 2021 will have their pick of various wagers and Olympic betting odds on sportsbooks as the competition grows nearer.
