Massive Odds Shift In Olympic Boxing Odds For Women’s 57kg, 66kg

Increased betting traffic has impacted betting odds for the Women’s Olympic Boxing competitions in the 57kg category and 66kg category.
Lin Yu-Ting (57kg) moved from +300 to -175 odds, while Imane Khelif (66kg) moved from +475 to -220 odds to secure gold medals.
Both athletes were banned from the 2023 Women’s World Championship for being deemed as biological males, but are allowed to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

PARIS – Two Olympic women’s boxers are competing in the 2024 Paris Games despite being previously barred from women’s events like the 2023 Women’s World Championship for gender eligibility. The story has gone wild in the media, but Olympic betting odds have also taken note of the gender controversy.

Olympic boxers Lin Yu-Ting of Taiwan and Imane Khelif of Algeria were deemed biologically male last year at the Women’s World Championship for boxing. Now, since the International Olympic Committee no longer recognizes the International Boxing Association and only refers to the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit, the fighters are eligible to compete in the Olympics.

Many bettors have rushed to bet on the 2024 Paris Olympics as a result of the news, influencing seismic odds swings for the women’s 57kg and 66kg categories. Lin Yu-Ting, who had +300 odds to win the gold medal just a week ago, is now the favorite with -175 odds to win the women’s 57kg gold medal.

Lin Yu-Ting originally trailed Irma Testa, who is the reigning world champion in boxing for the 57kg category but suffered a shocking elimination in the first stage. The combination of recent gender controversy and loss of former favorite Testa propelled Yu-Ting into the driver’s seat for a gold medal.

In the 66kg category, Imane Khelif had +475 odds just weeks ago but now has -220 odds. Khelif also has -5000 odds to win a medal in the women’s boxing 66kg competition.

Lauren Price, Irma Testa Favored In Olympic Boxing Gold

Lauren Price, of Great Britain, has +120 odds to take home gold in the middleweight division.
Irma Testa is the +115 betting favorite in the women’s featherweight division.

TOKYO – Saturday kicks off the women’s featherweight semifinals as well as the women’s middleweight quarterfinals for Olympic boxing. Before the field gets narrowed down too much, the betting odds are still long enough to make a play on who may be awarded with the gold medal.

Women’s Featherweight: Irma Testa and Nesthy Petecio Favored

Irma Testa and Nesthy Petecio are considered the two top athletes remaining in the women’s featherweight field. The Olympic betting odds label the two as big favorites over the remainder of the field, however, they will face one another in the semifinals.

Essentially, sports betting sites are predicting the winner of Testa vs Petecio will move on and end up with a gold medal around their neck.

Petecio has struggled at times in her career and has even lost twice to Sena Irie making for an unfavorable matchup if that were to be the final grouping.

For safety, betting on Testa is likely the best move and the plus-money value is still there.

Women’s Middleweight: Lauren Price On Upset Alert?

The women’s middleweight division is another interesting betting spot, as it’s not all that common that betting on boxing can yield a plus-money ticket on any available choice.

However, that is in fact the case in this division.

Women’s Middleweight Gold Medal Odds

Lauren Price is the favorite, but there may be more value on some of the other options. Li Qian holds a win over Price, but it was back in 2014.

The two haven’t fought since and they are both much improved, but at +260, she could be the best bet. Qian won bronze in this division in 2016 and has since won gold in a World Championship and done so twice in Asian Championships.

Shakhobidin Zoirov won the Gold Medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Yosvany Veitia has the second shortest odds to win the gold medal with +550 odds.

TOKYO — As the 2021 Summer Olympics are getting ready to kick off on Friday, Men’s Flyweight boxing is where Shakhobidin Zoirov is favored to win his second Olympic Gold Medal in a row.

Since the 2016 Olympic games, Zoirov has remained active in the boxing world having won a gold medal at the 2019 Boxing World Championships in Yekaterinburg, Russia, and again in 2021 at the Asian Championships in Dubai.

Shakhobidin Zoirov is set to represent Uzbekistan for Olympic boxing and is going into the event standing at 5 foot 6 inches and with a standing reach of 67 inches.

Zoirov even stacks up well with other Olympic boxers having taken down Yoel Finol at the 2016 Olympics, as well as Billal Bennama, Amit Panghal, and Daniel Asenov at the 2019 World Boxing Championships.

Although betting on Shakhobidin Zoirov is the safest bet to make, those looking for longer odds can focus on Cuban boxing sensation, Yosvany Veitia.

Veitia sits with the second shortest Olympic betting odds to win the gold after having competed in both 2012 and 2016.

Defeated by eventual gold medal winner, Zou Shiming, in 2012, Veitia again lost in 2016, where he was defeated in the quarterfinals.

However, Veitia has two notable wins over the third-ranked pound for pound fighter in the world, Naoya Inoue.

All in all, Veitia is looking to win gold for Cuba for the first time since 2012.

The Olympic Boxing preliminary fights are set to begin on Monday, July 26 while the finals are set for Saturday, August 7. These events will be broadcasted on NBC and the Olympic Channel.
