BEIJING, China - Alpine Skiing at the Beijing Winter Olympics is one of the most popular sports. Within the alpine skiing events though, the men’s giant slalom is one of the biggest in the sport. It is set to begin on February 13.

With that, Winter Olympic betting sites have futures odds for the men’s giant slalom, and Marco Odermatt of Switzerland is favored to come away with the gold medal.

Odermatt Looking To Add To Gold Medal Collection

Although this will be Odermatt’s first Winter Olympics, he is no stranger to the giant slalom events and is one of the most decorated participants. He has been ranked in the top-10 alpine skiers in giant slalom events over the last four years. Right now, he is currently ranked number one in the world.

He began winning gold medals early on in his career at the Junior World Championships with six total including two in giant slalom. Moving on to the World Cup, he has been on a tear with six gold medals since 2019. He has also never finished outside of the top-3 with eight placings in second and third place.

Little Competition

Looking directly behind Odermatt in the alpine skiing odds is French skier, Alexis Pinturault. Pinturault does have the edge when it comes to Olympic experience, but that’s it as he has never won a gold medal at the Olympics. Also, when it comes to the giant slalom event, he has never won a gold medal in the Championships.

He did finish with two bronze medals for giant slalom in 2014 and 2018, however, his gold experience lacks far behind that of Odermatt.

No Stranger To Gold

There is a reason that Mikaela Shiffrin’s Alpine Skiing Olympic odds are where they are as she has won gold medals all throughout her career as an alpine skier. Not only has she won a gold medal for both events in the Winter Olympics, but she has also loaded up her resume with world championship gold medals.

Her first world championship gold medal came in 2013 and it was followed up in 2015, 2017, and 2019 all in the slalom events. She has also won gold medals in Super-G (2019) and combined events (2021) events as well. In giant slalom events, she won two silver world championship medals in 2017 and 2021.

She also has tons of World Cup experience as well coming in first place from 2013-2015 and 2017 in slalom events and came in first overall in 2017. In the World Cup giant slalom events, she came in third in 2015 and second in 2017.

Both of her odds offer tremendous value, however, due to her history in the slalom events, it is best to get in on her odds sooner than later before a potential shift as the event goes on.
