PARIS – The 2024 Paris Olympics gold medal for Women’s Rugby Sevens is a three-team race according to oddsmakers. New Zealand leads the way with +100 Olympic betting odds, but Australia narrowly trails with +160 odds to win the gold medal.

Current Women’s Rugby Sevens Gold Medal Odds

New Zealand (W) +100

Australia (W) +160

France (W) +500

USA (W) +2200

Canada (W) +2500

Ireland (W) +2800

Great Britain (W) +3300

Fiji (W) +4000

China (W) +6600

Japan (W) +15000

Brazil (W) +25000

South Africa (W) +50000

Oddsmakers have made it clear that New Zealand and Australia are on another level than competing rugby sevens squads. France is the only squad that comes close with +500 odds, but they’ve lost five consecutive head-to-head matches with Australia and lost 12 of the last 14 matches against New Zealand.

Pool Play Shows Easy Paths For New Zealand, Australia

Although Canada was formerly atop of the women’s World Rugby rankings and now stand at third, those rankings are deceiving. Canada’s +900 odds to win Pool A over New Zealand (-1000) support that the Canadians aren’t as good as World Rankings perceive.

Women's Rugby Sevens Pool A Odds

New Zealand (W) -1000

Canada (W) +900

Fiji (W) +1800

China (W) +2000

Canada did manage to defeat New Zealand on June 1, but that was their only win in their last 30 head-to-head matches since 2017. New Zealand’s 29-1 head-to-head record, which includes 11 wins since 2023, makes them the easy choice out of Pool A.

Women's Rugby Sevens Pool B Odds

Australia (W) -1400

Great Britain (W) +1200

Ireland (W) +1200

South Africa (W) +10000

Australia’s an even bigger favorite to win Pool B with -1400 Summer Olympics betting odds and are well deserving of them. The Australians are a combined 41-2 against their pool opponents, which includes all-time head-to-head records of 30-1 vs Ireland, 5-1 vs Great Britain, and 6-0 vs South Africa.

Women's Rugby Sevens Pool C Odds

France (W) -550

USA (W) +350

Japan (W) +4000

Brazil (W) +6600

When it comes to Pool C, the Olympic Rugby betting odds get more interesting with France favored at -550 odds. The United States expects to rival them with +350 odds, as they’ve defeated the French twice in their last three attempts since January.

Olympic rugby betting odds by pool odds favor New Zealand (-275), Argentina (-300), and France (-275).

PARIS – Betting odds for the Men’s Rugby Sevens at the 2024 Paris Olympics favor France with +200 odds. However, there are plenty of other talented teams like Fiji (+550) and South Africa (+1400) with longer Olympic betting odds to claim gold.

Current Men’s Rugby Sevens Gold Medal Odds

France +200

New Zealand +300

Argentina +400

Australia +1000

Ireland +1000

South Africa +1400

USA +2800

Samoa +10000

Kenya +20000

Uruguay +20000

Japan +50000

France being the favorite stands out as suffered a quarterfinals’ exit to South Africa in the 2023 Rugby World Cup. They do have arguably the best rugby player in the world in Antoine Dupont, but France’s +200 odds are too short to be worth a wager with such strong competition.

Meanwhile, Fiji (+500) and South Africa (+1400) have odds that are way too long considering their talent. Fiji is the back-to-back gold medalist but has +550 odds to take home gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Despite being the No. 1 ranked team according to World Rugby rankings, South Africa has long +1400 odds to win the Olympic gold medal. They just won the Rugby World Cup, defeating teams with shorter odds like France (+200) and New Zealand (+300) on the way.

Pool Winner Odds Favor New Zealand, Argentina, and France

Pool A is set to be a blood bath with New Zealand serving as the favorite to win it at -275 odds. However, they must get through Ireland (+400) and South Africa (+500) first.

Men's Rugby Sevens Pool A Winner Odds

New Zealand -275

Ireland +400

South Africa +500

Japan +15000

Japan is the odd man out, but both Ireland and South Africa could win this pool at great prices. South Africa and Ireland are ranked first and second on the Men’s Rugby Sevens world rankings, but Olympic Rugby betting odds convincingly favor New Zealand.

Men's Rugby Sevens Pool B Winner Odds

Argentina -300

Australia +225

Kenya +4000

Samoa +4000

Betting odds indicate the winner of Pool B will be either Argentina (-300) or Australia (+225), with Kenya and Samoa sharing long +4000 odds. Argentina finished with a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and bring an impressive squad to Paris, making them a worthy bet on the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Men's Rugby Sevens Pool C Winner Odds

France -275

Fiji +225

USA +1600

Uruguay +10000

Host nation France has -275 odds to win Pool C over the likes of Fiji (+225), USA (+1600), and Uruguay (+10000). Fiji is hard to count out at the Olympics since they’ve won gold medals in back-to-back Games, so their +225 odds are worth a sprinkle to win against France in enemy territory.

New Zealand has +135 odds to win the gold medal in the women’s eight.

Emma Twigg has +380 odds to win the women’s single sculls.

TOKYO - When people think of New Zealand, rowing is perhaps not the first thing that comes to mind. However, it is the most successful Olympic sport in the country, and has yielded 24 total medals, with 11 of them being gold.

Granted, athletics has also yielded them 24 medals, but only 10 of those have been gold, meaning that Olympic rowing is New Zealand’s most successful sport.

In the Tokyo Olympics, New Zealand is favored to pick up several more gold medals in the women’s coxed eight rowing and women’s single sculls. These two events happen on Saturday, with coxed eight kicking off at 10:20 p.m. EST, and single sculls a bit earlier, at 10 p.m. EST.

Women's Coxed Eight - Gold Medal Winner

New Zealand +135

USA +210

Australia +430

China +1100

Canada +1100

Romania+2900

In the coxed eight, New Zealand finds itself favored with +135 odds, but a tough United States team with +210 odds prevents them from being favored over the entire field. At the 2019 World Rowing Championships, New Zealand won the gold medal in women’s eight, and many of the rowers on this team were on that team.

They managed to hold off the Americans and the Australians, who finished in third and second place respectively.

This seems like an event at which the Kiwis could pick up a gold medal and add to their already impressive rowing total.

Women's Single Sculls - Gold Medal Winner

Sanita Puspure (IRL) +190

Hanna Prakatsen (ROC) +270

Emma Twigg (NZL) +380

Kara Kohler (USA) +850

Victoria Thornley (GBR) +1100

Magdalena Lobnig (AUT) +1400

Emma Twigg has not won an Olympic medal, and has competed in three previous Olympic Games’, coming in fourth place twice. Twigg won the 2014 World Championships as a single sculler, and a silver medal at the 2019 World Championships.

Sanita Puspure, however, might be a challenge that is too tough to be overcome. Puspure is the reigning world champion, having won in both 2018 and 2019, the last time the World Championships was held.

She is flat-out dominant, and is the biggest barrier to Twigg breaking through to the gold medal, although it is entirely possible that Twigg manages to overcome her, or, failing that, medal in this Olympics for the first time in her career.

For Olympic betting fans, this competition has it all - a solid underdog story, a dominant champion, and great betting odds.

TOKYO – New Zealand is projected to have a big year in the 2021 Olympics, at least in rugby where both the men’s and women’s teams are the favorites to win the event.

In 2016, the women’s team won silver while the men’s team failed to place on the podium.

Will New Zealand Sweep The Rugby Events?

If the Olympic betting odds are accurate, New Zealand should be able to bring home at least one of the gold medals in the form of the women’s team.

Women’s Rugby 7s Odds

New Zealand (W) -250

Australia (W) +600

Canada (W) +1000

USA (W) +1000

France (W) +1200

Great Britain (W) +1400

Russian Olympic Committee (W) +3300

Fiji (W) +10000

Japan (W) +15000

China (W) +25000

Kenya (W) +25000

Brazil (W) +50000

The odds seem to indicate that not only are the Black Ferns far and away the best team but that there’s no true competitor. Australia, sitting at +600 odds, has the apparent next best chance to win but there is no other country with odds short of +1000.

If the women’s team were to lose it would surely be a significant upset considering they have won 16 of the 22 World Series tournaments.

"New Zealanders are extremely passionate about rugby sevens and we can't wait to watch both the men's and women's teams take to the field in Japan with the fern proudly displayed on their chests," said Kereyn Smith, CEO of the New Zealand Olympic Committee.

The tougher ask could be from the men’s New Zealand team who also have the shortest odds, but this time those odds are shared with Fiji. In Rio, Fiji won the gold medal and will be looking to repeat as champions.

Meanwhile, the men’s team (the All Blacks) will be looking to improve as the team missed the podium in 2016. The All Blacks will return six players from the 2016 Olympic team.

Men’s Rugby 7s Odds

Fiji (FJI) +225

New Zealand (NZL) +225

South Africa (RSA) +300

USA (USA) +650

Australia (AUS) +1000

Great Britain (GBR) +1200

Argentina (ARG) +4000

Kenya (KEN) +5000

Ireland (IRL) +6600

Canada (CAN) +10000

Japan (JPN) +25000

South Korea (KOR) +50000

Those interested in betting on Rugby have a good opportunity to make some money with all countries having odds north of +200, and bettors may be best inclined to use multiple bets on both New Zealand and Fiji to secure a profit.

Whether New Zealand can sweep the rugby events remains to be seen, but being the favorites on both the men’s and women’s side is an accomplishment in itself.
