TOKYO – The track and field events are getting ready to begin in the Olympic Games. On Thursday there will be many different athletes taking to the track, but the competitors in the men’s 400m hurdles and women’s 100m will be among the stars of the show.

Karsten Warholm is set as a sizable favorite in the men’s 400m hurdles event.

In 2016, Warholm made it to the semifinals but was unable to progress into the medal round. Since being eliminated, he has improved significantly, as his Olympic betting odds would suggest.

Tokyo 2021 - Men's 400m Hurdles

Karsten Warholm (NOR) -225

Rai Benjamin (USA) +225

Abderrahman Samba (QAT) +1000

Alison Dos Santos (BRA) +1000

Kyron McMaster (IVB) +2000

Yasmani Copello (TUR) +4000

Warholm is the current world record holder for the event, posting a time of 46.70 earlier this month. Not only has Warholm improved since the last Olympics, but he’s peaking at the perfect time.

The previous world record had held strong for nearly 30 years, proving that Warholm is truly on a different level than the rest of the field at the moment and those betting on track and field should feel confident in his abilities to come out on top.

Women’s 100m - Jamaica Reigns Supreme

Jamaica is expected to continue its dominance in the women’s 100m event. The country swept the podium in 2008 and won gold and bronze in both 2012 and 2016.

This time around, Jamaica has the two favorites to win the event well ahead of anyone else on the track odds.

Tokyo 2021 - Women's 100m

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (JAM) -120

Elaine Thompson-Herah (JAM) +200

Dina Asher-Smith (GBR) +500

Shericka Jackson (JAM) +900

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is a staple to the scene. She won gold in this event in 2008 and 2012 and went home with the bronze in 2016.

At 34-years-old, she’s expected to return atop the podium. Despite coming towards the end of her career, she just posted the second-fastest time ever recorded just a month ago.

Her counterpart, Elaine Thompson Herah is the reigning gold medalist and is far from out of contention. She beat Fraser-Pryce earlier this month and could very well do so again on Thursday.

Olympic betting faithfuls can’t go wrong with either of these Jamaican sprinters, but the value may be on Thompson Herah as she offers double the payout of Fraser-Pryce.

TOKYO – The 2021 Olympics will debut 3-on-3 (3x3) basketball for the first time. Serbia and Latvia are projected to battle for the gold on the men’s side while the USA and France are favored for the women.

One of the most notable things when looking at the Men’s 3x3 basketball odds is that the USA failed to qualify and are not competing. This could potentially be surprising since the USA is considered the best basketball country in the world and have the overwhelming favorites in the 5x5 event.

Regardless, Olympic betting odds show that Serbia and Latvia are the top dogs in the inaugural event.

Men’s 3x3 Basketball Odds

Serbia +140

Latvia +225

ROC +700

Netherlands +850

Poland +1400

Belgium +1600

China +3300

Japan +4000

The odds show that it’s essentially a two-horse race between Serbia and Latvia and since Serbia is the No. 1 ranked team in the world by a wide margin, it may actually be a steal to get +140 odds attached to their name.

Women’s 3x3 Basketball – USA Favored, France Top Competition

The women’s basketball events are projected to be dominated by the United States. Not only is the USA a large -900 favorite for the 5x5 event, but they also carry the shortest Olympic basketball odds for the 3x3 event, narrowly ahead of France.

Women’s 3x3 Basketball

USA +110

France +200

ROC +550

China +800

Japan +1800

Italy +2500

Romania +4000

Mongolia +6600

The United States’ roster is very talented consisting of two-time NCAA Champion and two-time WNBA All-Star Stefanie Dolson, former NCAA Champions and WNBA Rookie of the Year Allisha Gray, the all-time NCAA scoring leader Kelsey Plum, and former NCAA champion and recent No.4 overall pick Katie Lou Samuelson.

In terms of talent, there’s not a team in the world that can compete with the USA, but France does have three of the top-ranked 3x3 players in the world and could pose a decent threat.

Only four qualifying spots remain for the 2021 Olympics.

TOKYO - The world’s basketball authority FIBA, has approved new dates for qualifying tournaments for the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.

The Olympic qualifying tournaments and Olympic Basketball Games were originally scheduled to take place this summer but were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

There are only four remaining qualifying spots left for the 2021 Olympic Games and those tournaments will be played on June 29-July 4, 2021 as announced by FIBA in a press release.

The four Olympic tournaments will still take place in their scheduled countries of Canada, Croatia, Lithuania, and Serbia.

There will be a total of 24 teams vying for the four qualifying spots to the Tokyo Olympic Games that will take place from July 23 to August 8, 2021.

Eight countries have already qualified for the Tokyo games and they are the United States, Nigeria, Spain, France, Iran, Australia, Japan, and Argentina have already claimed their spot in the quest for a gold medal.

With these dates now approved by FIBA, the only concern is that some NBA players might be in-season because of the postponement of the 2020 regular season which would potentially keep some of the best international players in the league from suiting up for their respective countries.

"Representing your country is one of the greatest honors in sport," said GlenGrunwald, the Canada Basketball President and CEO.

"I know our players will see the challenge ahead of them next summer as one small opportunity to recognize the daily sacrifices of all the front-line workers who are keeping our country safe and operating during this pandemic."
