Is The United States The Favorite To Win The Gold Medal In Basketball?

The men’s team has been no stranger to medaling in the basketball events for the Olympics. In fact, there was only one Olympic Games that the men did not win a medal (1980) since basketball has been played at the games. While some sportsbooks are offering betting odds for who will win the gold, some have adjusted to having it between the US or the field. In short, yes the men are the favorite to win the gold at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

When looking elsewhere, the women are just as likely to win the gold; however, Australia has medaled in 5 of the last 6 Olympic Games. Placing an insurance bet on them wouldn’t be a bad idea. For 3-on-3 basketball, countries such as Serbia and Russia (for the men) and China and Ukraine (for the women) could pose a threat to the Americans.

Is It Legal To Bet On Team USA For Basketball During The 2021 Tokyo Olympics?

Even if you don’t live in a state that has legalized sports betting, you still have the legal ability to bet on the Olympics. Local sportsbooks are definitely an option; however, it is much easier to find more wagering styles, varied betting lines, and increased odds with the use of offshore betting sites. These sportsbooks, as long as they are located outside of the country and have a regulatory body overseeing their operations, are safe and legal to use. Some states will not be accepted under the operator’s terms and conditions but it is more likely than not that your state is one of the accepted ones. We recommend using Bovada, SportsBetting, and BetOnline, as they have years of dedicated and positive experience, as well as excellent customer service, reliable payout options, and excellent promotions constantly running.

Current Betting Odds For Tokyo Olympic Basketball

No surprise, the United States was heavily favored to win the Olympic basketball gold from the start. While their odds ranged from -200 to -1000 across the various Olympic basketball betting sites, the USA find themselves as just as strong favorites in the Gold Medal Game. For the women, they look nearly unstoppable and are -2500 odds favorites. With many other ways to bet on Olympic basketball, avoiding the moneyline is likely best, unless you don't mind the high-value risk with low rewards.

What Are The Rules Of The Game?

The rules for the NBA are different from the rules for the Olympics, which follow the FIBA standards. The quarters are cut down to 10 minutes, having the game last for 40, not 49 minutes. The three-point line is set at 6.75 meters (22 feet) and the lane is extended in a diagonal fashion from the basket. Other than these slight variances, the same rules apply as far as scoring, penalties, and free throw shooting.

For the 3-on-3 competition, games last 10 minutes or until a team scores 21 points. The points are counted in 2s and 1s, not 3s and 2s, giving a major advantage to those who can shoot from distance. Free throws will also be worth 1 point.

How Can I Bet On Basketball During The 2021 Tokyo Olympics?

There are a ton of choices when it comes to betting on the basketball events during the Olympics in Tokyo. You will find betting lines and odds just as you would for an NBA game, giving you the option to take straight bets like the spread, over/under, and moneyline. With a game such as basketball, there are many stopping points which make live betting another option for you. Every offshore sportsbook has an in-play wagering feature that will allow you to keep betting as the game is being played.

Look into the futures bets before the basketball games begin, for this will likely be the best odds to win the gold medal that you will find. Taking a flier will really pay off here as well as securing the odds at the team that is favored to win.

Prop betting is another style that you can entertain at the Olympics. This is more of a situational bet rather than an outcome of the game. Player props may ask you if a certain player will score a certain number of points, while team props will gauge the focus around the team, such as giving a total number of turnovers. With multiple games, you will find there will be hundreds of prop bets offered with nearly every game.

Note that not all of these options will exist with your local sportsbook. The books that are licensed in a legal sports betting state must adhere to regulations, which differ from state to state. Using an offshore betting site will remove any of these possible restrictions, giving you the ultimate freedom to decide how you want to bet on the Tokyo Olympics.
