TOKYO – Fan Zhendong’s strong showing in the last few years has him being the runaway favorite at online sportsbooks to win the gold medal for Men’s Table Tennis at the 2021 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games.

Zhendong is currently ranked No. 1 in the world, a position he has held on to since 2018.

This will be the first time Zhendong competed in the Olympics.

Zhendong’s fellow Team China teammate Ma Long won the gold during the 2016 Rio Olympics. Long has the second shortest Olympic betting odds to win the gold at online sportsbooks.

Betting Fans Pick Fan Zhendong

Tokyo 2021 - Men's Individual

Fan Zhendong (CHN) -125

Ma Long (CHN) +138

Tomokazu Harimoto (JPN) +1000

Lin Yun-Ju (TPE) +2000

Dimitrij Ovtcharov (GER) +3300

Mattias Falck (SWE) +3300

Timo Boll (GER) +3300

Hugo Calderano (BRA) +4000

Jang Woo-Jin (KOR) +5000

Zhendong being favored is no surprise. The 24-year-old table tennis champion just recently won the ITTF World Tour in Austria, China, and Germany. He also holds wins at the 2019 Asian Cup Table Tennis Tournament and the able Tennis World Cup (Men's Singles).

He has been held on the number one World Ranking with his shake attack playing style and has defeated multiple World Champions along the way, including beating Olympic gold medalist Ma Long at the 2020 ITTF Men’s World Cup Dusseldorf.

Ma Long did get the better of Zhendong a few days later at with a 4-1 win at the 2020 ITTF Finals, but Fan remains the favorite to win the gold.

The Olympics will be a new experience for Zhendong but he is no stranger to high-level competition. China is poised to continue its long dominance of table tennis at the Tokyo Summer Olympic Games with Fan Zhendong leading the way.

TOKYO – The unrest in the 2021 Olympic host country of Japan counties to rise ahead of next month’s Games.

With the country still experiencing high COVID rates, odds have now appeared on multiple Olympic betting sites suggesting a possible move for the Olympic Games.

While the Games are still scheduled to begin in less than six weeks, that doesn’t stop the bookies from jumping on the opportunity to list odds for a possible change of scenery.

Will The Tokyo Olympics Be Moved To Another City?

No -100000

Yes, Moved To China +1500

Yes, Moved To USA +2500

Yes, Moved To Any Other Country +3300

Yes, Moved To Spain +7500

Yes, Moved To Turkey +7500

The listed odds have the Games staying in Tokyo as a massive favorite - and for good reason. The Olympics are a huge project that takes almost the entire four-year period in between Games to produce.

To simply pick up and move the Olympics to a brand new location less than two months from Opening Ceremonies would be one of the most ambitious and daunting tasks ever attempted.

That would mean that the brand new $1.4 billion National Stadium built in Tokyo would go to waste, in addition to the billions of dollars spent on Olympic infrastructure in the state.

The dissent of the Olympics all stems from the still remaining state of emergency in Tokyo due to the pandemic.

A recent poll found that over 80% of Tokyo residents are against the Games happening in their hometown. While COVID numbers have been down since the state of June in Japan, Tokyo is still experiencing around 500 new confirmed cases every day.

As of June 8, it is clear that the International Olympic Committee is going forward with the Games as planned regardless of public sentiment.

“Today we are only 45 days away from the opening ceremony, although the state of emergency is in effect and the situation remains severe nationwide,” said Seiko Hashimoto, the organizing committee president of the Tokyo Olympics. “The number of new COVID-19 cases in Tokyo has started to decrease little by little and we strongly hope the situation will be under control as soon as possible.”

Those looking to bet on the Olympics can find fun odds like these and more at any of the online Olympic sportsbooks.

Japan, USA, Nigeria, Argentina, Australia, Spain, France, and Iran have already qualified for the rescheduled 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

The remaining Olympic qualifying tournaments dates will be from June 29-July 4, 2021.

Only four qualifying spots remain for the 2021 Olympics.

TOKYO - The world’s basketball authority FIBA, has approved new dates for qualifying tournaments for the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.

The Olympic qualifying tournaments and Olympic Basketball Games were originally scheduled to take place this summer but were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

There are only four remaining qualifying spots left for the 2021 Olympic Games and those tournaments will be played on June 29-July 4, 2021 as announced by FIBA in a press release.

The four Olympic tournaments will still take place in their scheduled countries of Canada, Croatia, Lithuania, and Serbia.

There will be a total of 24 teams vying for the four qualifying spots to the Tokyo Olympic Games that will take place from July 23 to August 8, 2021.

Eight countries have already qualified for the Tokyo games and they are the United States, Nigeria, Spain, France, Iran, Australia, Japan, and Argentina have already claimed their spot in the quest for a gold medal.

With these dates now approved by FIBA, the only concern is that some NBA players might be in-season because of the postponement of the 2020 regular season which would potentially keep some of the best international players in the league from suiting up for their respective countries.

"Representing your country is one of the greatest honors in sport," said GlenGrunwald, the Canada Basketball President and CEO.

"I know our players will see the challenge ahead of them next summer as one small opportunity to recognize the daily sacrifices of all the front-line workers who are keeping our country safe and operating during this pandemic."
