Beijing 2022 Curling Odds Favor Canada, Sweden, Great Britain

Canada has +200 odds to win the men's curling event.
Sweden has +300 odds on the women's side as the betting favorites.
The trio of Canada, Sweden and Great Britain have the shortest odds on both sides.

BEIJING - The Winter Olympics are just a few weeks away from starting and one of the best betting options is on curling as the field is wide open.

Men's Curling Odds Favor Canada

If there is any country that's proven to be successful in Olympic curling, it's Canada.

The Canadian men brought home the gold medal in 2006, 2010, 2014 before finishing fourth in the most recent Olympic Games. Thus, they have the shortest Olympic betting odds.

Great Britain won the first Olympic curling gold medal back in 1924, but haven't topped the podium since.

They finished second in 2014 and 5th in 2018, maybe not being as good of a bet as Sweden considering Sweden has finished on the podium in each of the last two Olympics, placing third in 2014 and second in 2018.

Women's Curling Odds Favor Sweden

Sweden has been a women's curling dynasty over the last 15 years. They won gold in 2006, 2010 and in 2018 while finishing second in 2014. It shouldn't be too surprising to find them atop the curling betting odds.

Sweden at +300 seems like an easy bet to make.

Lauren Price, Irma Testa Favored In Olympic Boxing Gold

Lauren Price, of Great Britain, has +120 odds to take home gold in the middleweight division.
Irma Testa is the +115 betting favorite in the women’s featherweight division.

TOKYO – Saturday kicks off the women’s featherweight semifinals as well as the women’s middleweight quarterfinals for Olympic boxing. Before the field gets narrowed down too much, the betting odds are still long enough to make a play on who may be awarded with the gold medal.

Women’s Featherweight: Irma Testa and Nesthy Petecio Favored

Irma Testa and Nesthy Petecio are considered the two top athletes remaining in the women’s featherweight field. The Olympic betting odds label the two as big favorites over the remainder of the field, however, they will face one another in the semifinals.

Essentially, sports betting sites are predicting the winner of Testa vs Petecio will move on and end up with a gold medal around their neck.

Petecio has struggled at times in her career and has even lost twice to Sena Irie making for an unfavorable matchup if that were to be the final grouping.

For safety, betting on Testa is likely the best move and the plus-money value is still there.

Women’s Middleweight: Lauren Price On Upset Alert?

The women’s middleweight division is another interesting betting spot, as it’s not all that common that betting on boxing can yield a plus-money ticket on any available choice.

However, that is in fact the case in this division.

Women’s Middleweight Gold Medal Odds

Lauren Price is the favorite, but there may be more value on some of the other options. Li Qian holds a win over Price, but it was back in 2014.

The two haven’t fought since and they are both much improved, but at +260, she could be the best bet. Qian won bronze in this division in 2016 and has since won gold in a World Championship and done so twice in Asian Championships.

A 12-Year-Old Female Skateboarder Could Compete At Tokyo 2020

Sky Brown is a professional skateboarder, surfer, and dancer.
Brown will be only 12 years old by the time the Sumer Olympics happens.
Brown could be one of the youngest Olympians in history.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – Sky Brown, who is currently 11 years old, could potentially qualify for the park skateboarding event at Tokyo 2020.

By the time the Summer Olympics happen, Brown will be 12 years old. Although she is young, she has won many top-level skateboarding competitions. Thanks to that, she is on the way to represent Great Britain in the park skateboarding at the Summer Olympics.

A Young Champion

The Olympics would not be Brown’s first competition. Despite her age, Brown has won many different competitions. She recently won gold at the United Kingdom National Skateboarding Championship. She has also won bronze during the Park World Skateboarding Championship in Brazil.

Thanks to her accomplishments, it is almost guaranteed that she will represent Great Britain in the park competitions at Tokyo 2020. This will likely make her the youngest Olympian at the Summer Olympics.

"I don't feel any nerves. It will be really cool to be the youngest Olympian. People might think you're too young or that you can't do it, but I want to show that it's not about your size or age. I want to be in the Olympics to inspire other girls to show them you can do anything. I'm excited for Tokyo,” said Brown.

Brown is not just good at skateboarding. She is also an accomplished surfer as well. Tokyo 2020 will also have surfing as a competition. However, Brown decided to focus on skateboarding for the Summer Olympics.

"I like them both the same, they're super similar," said Brown. "But it's like if you go and get ramen and ice cream – if you eat too much ramen you want to go and get ice cream. I used to be better at surfing, but I've been skating a lot lately, and I've got way better from doing contests. It's made me want to go harder."

Brown appearing at the Olympics is almost guaranteed. Tokyo 2020 will feature the inaugural skateboarding competition and Brown is planning to take the competition by storm. Olympic odds on her will likely appear as soon as it is confirmed that Brown is going. The Women’s Park competition will happen on August 5, 2020.

Triathletes Disqualified For Solidarity Moment At Finish Line

Qualifiers for Tokyo 2020 is well underway.
Two British triathletes were disqualified and will not go to the Olympics.
They will have another opportunity to qualify in the future.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Two British athletes were disqualified from a triathlon qualifier for finishing together hand-in-hand.

What Was At Stake

The World Triathlon Olympic Qualification Event happened in Tokyo. As the name implies, this race would earn triathletes a spot at the Summer Olympics. Needless to say, this event was important for the triathletes to do well in. In the end, two British athletes won the triathlon. They were Jess Learmonth and Georgia Taylor-Brown.

Learmonth and Taylor-Brown were the two first runners to cross the finish line. As they were crossing the finish line, there were holding hands in celebration. However, this caused both of the triathletes to be disqualified from the race.

The Ruling

The International Triathlon Union has rules and regulations for the triathlon. Rule 2.11.f states that “Athletes who finish in a contrived tie situation, where no effort to separate their finish times has been made, will be DSQ.”

Regarding the disqualification of Jessica Learmonth and Georgia Taylor Brown, the ITU rules are as follows:

That is exactly what happened. Although it was not malicious, the two triathletes made no efforts separating from each other. They both wanted to finish the race together and show the world solidarity and friendship. But that cost them both a spot on the podium and their ticket to the Summer Olympics.

This means that Flora Duffy from Bermuda ended up taking the gold medal for this qualifier. Behind her is Alice Betto of Italy and British athlete Vicky Holland. They received silver and bronze respectively.

Although Taylor-Brown is disappointed by the result, she does not regret it. Plus, OlympicBettingOdds.com knows this is not the only qualifiers for the Olympic triathlon. The running section of the triathlon was cut short due to poor weather. This means that more opportunities to qualify for the Olympic triathlon will appear later in the year.
