In the 1000m speed skating event, she has a personal best time of 1:26:854 which she posted recently in 2021 as well.

Also, of the two-speed skaters that follow Schulting on the odds board in Choi Min-Jeong and Kim Boutin, Schulting has the top personal best time of the three by 1 second which is an eternity in such as fast-paced sport.

Xuetong has plenty of gold medal experience as well in the halfpipe event having won three gold medals for it. Her medals came at the 2015 Winter Universiade, and the 2015 and 2017 World Championships. The leg up that Kim has though is that Xuetong has never won an Olympic medal for the halfpipe event.

BEIJING – The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics are just two weeks away and there are plenty of betting odds to get in on. Some of the most popular betting odds that are available for the Winter Olympics are the total medals won by each country.

Nathan Chen Leads Figure Skating Qualifiers For U.S.

The U.S. qualifiers for figure skating are being led by Nathen Chen.

BEIJING – As the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics draw closer, the United States is beginning to ramp up its athletes for each sport. One sport, in particular, to keep an eye on is figure skating.

Looking at where the United States currently sits in the figure skating qualifiers, Nathan Chen is the one that is leading the way. Chen competed at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic in the team event where he earned a bronze medal.

Other than the bronze medal he earned, he has made a name for himself in the singles tournaments as well. He has eight gold medals in singles tournaments with his last one coming in 2021 at the Stockholm World Championship.

In addition to his 2021 World Championship gold medal, he has three total World Championship gold medals, three Grand Prix gold medals, and Four Continents gold medals.

Looking into the odds, figure skating Olympic odds are not yet available, however, it is safe to assume that when they do come out that Chen will be somewhere near the top of the odds board.

For those that are wanting to get in on Olympic betting action that could relate to figure skating, Olympic betting sites have odds on which country is going to win the most gold medals.

Sportsbooks Pull Olympic Hockey Odds With NHL Players Out

Canada was favored to win the Olympic hockey gold medal with +150 odds.
It is unclear which hockey players and leagues will participate in Beijing.

BEIJING - Following the announcement that the NHL and NHL Players Association have pulled all players from representing their countries in the 2022 Winter Olympics, sportsbooks have pulled all Olympic Ice Hockey odds.

The announcement that NHL players will not play in the the Olympics has left sportsbooks on thin ice. It is currently unclear which leagues will allow their players to be considered for the Winter Olympics.

Some speculate that the Russian Olympic Committee may see the largest Olympic betting odds benefit because of the NHL players lack of participation. The KHL - the second best hockey league in the world - is allowing players to participate in Beijing 2021 and is over 50% comprised of Russian athletes.

Finland (6%) and Czech Republic (6%) may also see their Olympic Ice Hockey odds shorten, as over a tenth of the KHL are of these nationalities.

Canada is in a different boat leaving the board as the betting favorite Despite a 7% representation in the KHL, Canada's hockey odds will likely get longer as notable NHL veterans like Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby, Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid and Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Alex Pietrangelo will be absent after being named to the team.

Canada has won two silver medals in the past (Albertville 1992, Lillehammer 1994) but putting together a team this late will be a real challenge for Shane Doan and Claude Julien. Even further, with concerns over health and safety of players, coaches, and staff, Canada also withdrew from the Spengler Cup on Monday.

Building Teams Without Professional Players

One possible route for the Americans and Canadians to go when building their teams is through the NCAA. Some options from the player pool for the Canadians include: Owen Power (1st overall selection), Mason McTavish (3rd selection), and Kent Johnson (5th). Americans Matty Beniers (2) and Luke Hughes (4th) provide the United States with some great options as well.

An important piece of recent history is that the 2018 Winter Olympics ice hockey tournament was also played with no NHL players.

The Russians won gold, Germany got silver and Canada got the bronze. The difference between then and now is that each country knew well in advance who would make up their teams. With the NHL pulling their players so close to the Olympics, many countries will be left in tough spots.

The Russian team was give +100 odds to win the Gold for the 2018 Winter Olympic tournament, which may give some indication as to how strong of an advantage they have given their KHL pipeline.

For that same tournament, Canada was given +450 odds and the USA was given +1000 odds to win the gold medal.

Groups Are Calling For A Boycott Of The 2022 Winter Olympics

BEIJING - The 2022 Winter Olympics has been awarded to Beijing, a place that hosted the games previously in 2008. There are some people who are unhappy with this decision, feeling that China is currently an unfit country to host the Olympics.

Concerns For The Uyghurs

“The concern over what’s happening with the Uyghurs is not something we can turn away from. Let’s consider, in the rounds, what further action we can take,” said Dominic Raab, the British Foreign Secretary.

China stands accused by many of attempting to culturally erase the Uyghurs via demographic replacement, re-education camps, and imprisonment. This alleged political behavior has sparked talks of boycotts.

"The 2022 Olympics shouldn’t be in China. We gotta say: ‘China, until you become a legitimate country that is going to respect human rights, we’re not going to do business with you," said Rick Scott, a Florida Senator, to CNBC.

Research compiled by the Uyghur Human Rights Project suggests that China has imprisoned or detained at least 630 imams and other Muslim religious figures since 2014.

Separation Of Sports And State

There are more than 100 human rights groups currently calling for a boycott of the 2022 Olympics, but this has come across to some as an attempt to inappropriately politicize a sports event to enforce their worldview.

“Some organizations have linked the so-called human rights issues with the Beijing Winter Olympics in an attempt to put pressure on the Chinese side, which is a mistake to politicize the sports movement,” said Wang Wenbin, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson.

Executive Director for the International Olympic Committee Christophe Dubi seems to share the sentiment. “The Games are about sport and about the athletes, and this is a line we do not cross,” said Dubi.

Canada Worries For Athletes

Due to some recent tensions between Canada and China, Canadian Conservative leader Erin O'Toole questions the safety of Canadian athletes in Chinese borders.

In 2018, Canadian entrepreneur Michael Spavor was sentenced by China to 11 years in prison for spying just days after the Canadian government arrested senior Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou. The Chinese government is also holding two other Canadians hostage by the names of Michael Korvig, and Robert Schellenberg.

“We’re going to be watching the decision very closely. Beijing has to know that the world is watching the genocide taking place against the Uyghurs. They’ve watched what’s been happening in Hong Kong and the situation with Mr Schellenberg, Mr Spavor and Mr Kovrig," said O'Toole.

In September, over international human rights groups teamed up to write a letter to the International Olympic Committee requesting the Games to be moved out of China. Being less than a year out from the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, and with no indication that the committee is planning any changes, it's unlikely the games will be moved from Beijing.
