The odds for the most Olympic gold medals in 2024 have the United States as a heavy favorite. With -850 odds, one would need to risk $8.5 for every dollar won. In other words, a bet of $85 on the US to win the most gold medals would pay out $95 ($85 bet + $10 winnings).

As for swimming, it's a similar story. The 1988 Olympics in South Korea was the last time the US didn't finish with the most gold medals in swimming. Sky Brown is a skateboarder that will be on Team GB, becoming the youngest competitor for a Summer Olympic event to represent England.
The athlete is 13 years old and expected to medal for Great Britain for skateboarding.
The Tokyo Summer Olympics will debut the sport of skateboarding as an Olympic one for the first time in the history of the Olympics.

LONDON – Since 1928, Margery Hinton, a British swimmer, has held the record as the youngest summer Olympian to represent England yet almost 100 years later, Sky Brown will now hold that title and break the record.

Brown is a famous skateboarder that will be 13 years and 11 days old when the 2020 Olympic Games begin on July 23. Hinton was 13 years and 44 days old at the time of her event, being edged out by Brown by a mere 33 days.

But the youngest Olympian in England’s history was in 1932, during the Winter Olympics where Cecilia Colledge figure skated for her country at the tender age of 11.

Who Is Sky Brown?

Sky Brown is the daughter of a Japanese mother and an English father, which is how she is able to represent Team Great Britain (GB) in the Olympic Games.

The young athlete speaks fluent Japanese and is hoping not to cause any issues with Japan by being on Team GB. She would like to bring the countries together and has said she wants to connect with the Japanese fans in their native language if given the chance.

Brown placed third in the World Skate qualifiers. She has been skateboarding since she was in preschool as she comes from a family of surfers and skateboarders. One day, she would like to represent both sports in the Olympics because she is very passionate.

For now though, she will take the win of being the youngest to compete for Team GB in their Summer Olympic history as well as be a part of the debut of Olympic skateboarding as a recognized sport.

“I’m just doing my thing, having fun,” said Brown. “I’m just a girl doing what she loves!”

Brown hopes to be an inspiration at the Tokyo Olympics to young girls all over the world to show them that anything is possible. She would also like to get more girls into the sport. She realizes that skateboarding can be scary, having endured a skull fracture and multiple broken bones over a year ago during practice but that incident has not deterred her in any way.

“I get scared all the time, in skateboarding, I get scared a lot, “said Brown. “Also, that’s what’s cool about skateboarding, you never know what’s coming next. I do get scared all the time but I like the feeling of beating my scaredness, it’s a bit like beating myself.”

When Will The Competition Begin?

Brown will be skateboarding into the Olympics on August 4-5. The event will be taking place at the Ariake Urban Sports Park. While the young competitor is expected to medal for Team GB, there may not be any odds on her specifically to be found on regulated state sportsbooks due to her age.

Emperor Naruhito of Japan is concerned about hosting the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo because of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Over 80% of the athletes and anyone else involved with the competition will be vaccinated by the beginning of the Games.
The 2021 Summer Olympics is set to begin on July 23 with the Paralympics beginning on August 24, also in Japan.

TOKYO – Emperor Naruhito of Japan is very hesitant to host the 2021 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, fearing a further spread of the Coronavirus, the Imperial Palace reported on Thursday.

There is exactly one month left until the torch is lit, signifying the beginning of the Olympics Games. The country has been speaking out with their concerns, urging for another delay of the event which originally was supposed to be held in 2020 or an overall cancellation.

The issue most are having is due to the fact that many people from all over the world will be coming to Japan to compete. More than 80% of the athletes and those involved in the Olympics will be vaccinated by the time it all begins on July 23.

Tokyo will also be hosting the Paralympics that is scheduled to begin on August 24.

What’s Concerning Japan

It’s not mandated that everyone be vaccinated to compete in the Olympics. However, Japan is asking everyone to please take every possible measure available to contain COVID-19 and not create a fourth wave of the Coronavirus for the country.

"His majesty is extremely worried about the current situation of the COVID-19 infections," said Yasuhiko Nishimura, grand steward of the Imperial Household Agency. "While there are voices of unease among the public, I believe the emperor is concerned that holding the Olympics and Paralympics may lead to the expansion of the infections."

The Olympics will look a little different this year with COVID-19 still looming. This will affect everything from how the events are held to Olympic betting odds because not every athlete in the world that is known to be the best for each sport will be competing. Japan, USA, Nigeria, Argentina, Australia, Spain, France, and Iran have already qualified for the rescheduled 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
The remaining Olympic qualifying tournaments dates will be from June 29-July 4, 2021.
Only four qualifying spots remain for the 2021 Olympics.

TOKYO - The world’s basketball authority FIBA, has approved new dates for qualifying tournaments for the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.

The Olympic qualifying tournaments and Olympic Basketball Games were originally scheduled to take place this summer but were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

There are only four remaining qualifying spots left for the 2021 Olympic Games and those tournaments will be played on June 29-July 4, 2021 as announced by FIBA in a press release.

The four Olympic tournaments will still take place in their scheduled countries of Canada, Croatia, Lithuania, and Serbia.

There will be a total of 24 teams vying for the four qualifying spots to the Tokyo Olympic Games that will take place from July 23 to August 8, 2021.

Eight countries have already qualified for the Tokyo games and they are the United States, Nigeria, Spain, France, Iran, Australia, Japan, and Argentina have already claimed their spot in the quest for a gold medal.

With these dates now approved by FIBA, the only concern is that some NBA players might be in-season because of the postponement of the 2020 regular season which would potentially keep some of the best international players in the league from suiting up for their respective countries.

"Representing your country is one of the greatest honors in sport," said GlenGrunwald, the Canada Basketball President and CEO.

"I know our players will see the challenge ahead of them next summer as one small opportunity to recognize the daily sacrifices of all the front-line workers who are keeping our country safe and operating during this pandemic."

Gasol is currently nursing a foot injury and has not played a single game of NBA basketball all season. Still the 39-year old big man is hoping to be complete with his rehab and be ready for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.

The 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo is already hosting a lot of NBA players vying for a spot on the US Men’s Basketball Team.

Big names like Lebron James and Steph Curry have already been confirmed to be finalists for the team. Gasol joining the for the Spanish National Team will be even more NBA star presents surrounding the Olympics.

ESPN’s Senior Writer Ramona Shelburne confirmed via her twitter that Gasol was not just hoping to play for Spain in the 2020 Olympics, but also that there was a possibility of him playing in the net NBA season as well.

Gasol who is nursing an injured foot would need to get fully healthy before he is able to play any kind of basketball in the future. Gasol made it clear to Shelburne on ESPN Radio that he was really focused on his rehab, however, and that getting healthy is taking his full priority.

“I’m in rehab right now, just focusing solely on and prioritizing getting my foot healed so I can get back out there and try to play again,” said Gasol.

He continued to speak on being waived by the Portland Trailblazers, expressing that the decision was mutual.

“We just agreed that it was better for me just to focus on the rehab and not have to be under a team kind of a schedule,” Gasol continued. “Just focusing solely and prioritizing my health, and from then we’ll see.”

Gasol is not only a two-time NBA champion, but the 18-year veteran is also a two-time Spanish League Champion and has won medals in the last three Olympics playing for Spain. Time will tell if Gasol can rehab quick enough to represent his home country at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Coronavirus Causes Cautious Preparation For 2020 Olympics

The coronavirus has shifted plans for the 2020 Olympic events.
The U.S. and Japan have been taking serious precautionary measures.
Training and travel plans have been redirected as the games will take place in Tokyo.

TOKYO, JAPAN - With the outbreak of the contagious coronavirus, both the United States and Japan have been taking precautionary measures in order to keep it contained. Both countries have been holding restrictions for Olympic players and officials regarding travel and training.

The effect it will have for certain athletes Olympic betting odds may not be seen until the games start. However, many are still finding ways to get in the best shape possible before the biggest events of their lives.

Postponed/Canceled Events

Many different sporting events have been either postponed, canceled or the location has been changed. All events that were held in China that are not being postponed or canceled have been relocated to either Australia or Serbia. Four sports that were moved there are:

United States Safety

The main concern for the U.S. is the international traveling by the players, coaches and general staff as well as the travel from Asian athletes to the United States for pre-Olympic events.

The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) has been working hand in hand with Homeland Security in order to process incoming athletes from Asia for skiing and speed skating events held in Utah.

Colton Brown, a member of the United States Judo team has spoken out about the cancelation of some events. “I remember being told I should take extreme caution—some people warned me against even traveling to Brazil for the Olympics—but everything turned out to be fine.”

Brown continued, “I feel terrible for the Chinese athletes who currently aren’t able to travel to some of the Olympic qualifying events—but I seriously think that we are at a point with international medicine that this won't last too long and everything will be resolved before the Olympics.”

Japan Safety

Yuriko Koike, the governor of Tokyo, said, “We must firmly tackle the new coronavirus to contain it—or we are going to regret it. I will do the utmost to contain this new problem as we cooperate closely with all of you.” Koike also advised the citizens of Tokyo to take proper sanitary measures to avoid contamination.

The Olympic committee in Tokyo added to Koike’s concerns, “Countermeasures against infectious diseases constitute an important part of our plans to host a safe and secure (Olympic) games.”

Travel And Training Disruptions

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has voiced their concerns about the virus. They are pushing for non-U.S. citizens who were in China within 14 days of their travel plans to not be permitted into the United States.

UFC fighter, Weili Zhang was originally training in Beijing but moved it back to the U.S. in Las Vegas. Chinese Sports authorities have canceled training for 10 sports. Sports that training has not been canceled has been moved to isolated areas.

The head official in charge of competitions from the General Administration of Sports, Liu Guoyong said, “The epidemic has indeed presented severe challenges as we prepare for Tokyo…but as of now, preparations for all teams are going smoothly and no suspected case has occurred.”
