The odds for the most Olympic gold medals in 2024 have the United States as a heavy favorite. With -850 odds, one would need to risk $8.5 for every dollar won. In other words, a bet of $85 on the US to win the most gold medals would pay out $95 ($85 bet + $10 winnings).

This expensive bet makes sense, as the United States being dominant in athletics and swimming creates an excellent upper hand.

The US has led the Athletics gold medal count every year. In fact, you have to go back to 1980, when the United States led a boycott of the Summer Olympic Games in Moscow to find the last time the US didn't finish atop the gold medal table for track and field.

As for swimming, it's a similar story. The 1988 Olympics in South Korea was the last time the US didn't finish with the most gold medals in swimming. But, 2020 was a challenge for the US, as it was the first time on their run that they didn't have at least five more gold medals than the next country. With a strong swimming focus from Australia, Canada, Great Britain, and China, the swimming events may hold the US back.

Still, the US has been dominant over the last few Olympics, gaining the most gold medals every year since 1992 when Unified Team - a joint group of former Soviet republics - beat out the US by eight.

Standing Her Dominance

Zoi Sadowski-Synnott is one of the most well-known women’s snowboarders in the world as she is the number one ranked women’s snowboarder. BEIJING – The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games are still set to take place despite the outbreak of COVID-19 that has affected the world.

Odds at popular sportsbooks show that betting fans expect the Olympics to happen, and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed the notion in a recent statement.

"The issue of postponement is no longer relevant to all of us," said Ralph Stöckli, Swiss team in a statement translated to English. “We can now concentrate on our task: creating the best possible conditions for the Swiss delegation during the four weeks between us and the opening ceremony."

The IOC originally postponed the Tokyo Summer Olympic Games by one year during the initial COVID-19 outbreak. This set the schedule back for the Winter Games as well.

It is unclear which hockey players and leagues will participate in Beijing.

BEIJING - Following the announcement that the NHL and NHL Players Association have pulled all players from representing their countries in the 2022 Winter Olympics, sportsbooks have pulled all Olympic Ice Hockey odds.

The announcement that NHL players will not play in the the Olympics has left sportsbooks on thin ice. It is currently unclear which leagues will allow their players to be considered for the Winter Olympics.

Some speculate that the Russian Olympic Committee may see the largest Olympic betting odds benefit because of the NHL players lack of participation. The KHL - the second best hockey league in the world - is allowing players to participate in Beijing 2021 and is over 50% comprised of Russian athletes.

Finland (6%) and Czech Republic (6%) may also see their Olympic Ice Hockey odds shorten, as over a tenth of the KHL are of these nationalities.

Canada is in a different boat leaving the board as the betting favorite Despite a 7% representation in the KHL, Canada's hockey odds will likely get longer as notable NHL veterans like Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby, Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid and Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Alex Pietrangelo will be absent after being named to the team.

One possible route for the Americans and Canadians to go when building their teams is through the NCAA.
