Phoenix Snow Park

Located in the PyeongChang Mountain Cluster just west of the Alpensia Resort, the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics Phoenix Snow Park is the venue for several Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard events. The Olympic locale uses the preexisting Bokwang Phoenix Park, which is an operational ski resort in the township of Bongpyeong-myeon. With room for 18,000 spectators split between 10,200 seats and space for 7,800 standing fans, the venue is one of the bigger sites of the 2018 Winter Olympics. Look for some of the most exciting displays of winter acrobatics as athletes take to the air in these dramatic events.

Phoenix Snow Park Events

There are several Phoenix Snow Park events slated for the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics. Two main disciplines will be showcased on the slopes there: Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding.

Under the Freestyle banner, both Men’s and Women’s events will be held at the Phoenix Snow Park. These include Aerials, Moguls, Ski Cross, Ski Halfpipe, and Ski Slopestyle. Altogether, then, the course will host 10 total skiing events taking place across most of the duration of the Games. Each different event will be run on a different segment of the mountain, with races from 1050 meters/0.65 miles (Ski Cross) to 141 meters/154 yards (Aerials).

For Snowboarding, the Phoenix Snow Park will host four events each for both men and women. These include the Parallel Giant Slalom, the Halfpipe, Snowboard Cross, and Slopestyle. Races and events for snowboarding range from 150 meters/164 yards (Halfpipe) to 1050 meters/0.65 miles (Snowboard Cross, a.k.a. SBX), and the Halfpipe course walls measure in at 6.7 meters (22 feet) in height. So if you’re looking for big air and bigger tricks, the Phoenix Snow Park is definitely the venue for you.

How To Get To The Phoenix Snow Park

As are all other venues in the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics, the Phoenix Snow Park is in close proximity to everything else on the Games’ menu. So no matter where you are in the area, it’s only a short hop to the Phoenix slopes by car or bus or KTX.

Traveling By Car

If you’re traveling by car, you can simply park in the Bongpyeong Parking Lot (which you can find by typing the lot’s name into your GPS device or app of choice) and hoof it to one of the ubiquitous Spectator Shuttle Bus terminals there.

Traveling By Bus

If you’re traveling by bus, you will have to use one of PyeongChang’s express (inter-city) buses and simply disembark at the Jangpyeong Bus Terminal. Then, just hop onto one of the Spectator Shuttle Buses, which will take you to your venue of choice (in this case, the Phoenix Snow Park).

Traveling By KTX

KTX riders will get off at the PyeongChang Station or the Jinbu Station and similarly catch one of the Spectator Shuttle Buses to the Phoenix Snow Park. All things considered, it should be extremely efficient and pleasant to get around throughout the duration of these Winter Games.

Other Activities In PyeongChang During The Olympics

While you’re visiting PyeongChang during the Olympics, you might want to take a break from the Games here and there. In that case, the South Korean county has a number of sightseeing options for eager visitors. You can check out the heralded Woljeongsa Temple (Dongsan Village), which is the head of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. You can also visit the Confucian libraries at the 360-year-old PyeongChang Hyanggyo, the vistas of the Odaesan National Park, and immerse yourself in the Lee Hyo-seok Culture Village.

Where To Eat In PyeongChang

Obviously, one of the highlights of any Olympic trip is the host country’s food. If you’re looking for where to eat in PyeongChang, you’ll have a number of traditional and fusion options at your disposal. The most famous restaurant in the region is likely the Wow Dagwallyyeong Hanwoo Jinbu, which is a Korean barbecue hotspot that specializes in the category. Other nice eateries include Dakidakpam, Hanwootown, and the area’s numerous local “fast food” chains. And don’t forget to try some real kombucha!
