The Gangneung Curling Centre for PyeongChang 2018 will be the home of Olympic Curing in the Winter Games. The Gangneung Curling Centre venue located in Gangneung, South Korea is the only facility in the city that was constructed prior to PyeongChang becoming the 2018 Olympic hosts. Formerly called the Gangneung Gymnasium, the venue was first opened in 1998 as a location for ice hockey at the Asian Winter Games. Once PyeongChang won the bid for the 2018 Winter Olympics, the city began renovating the venue in December of 2015 with construction completed the same time the following year. Each playing area for the curling event is 150ft and 11in long, by 15ft and 7in wide. Comparatively, the size of the playing surface is about two and a half times bigger than a standard bowling lane. The Gangneung Curling Centre has a capacity of 3,500 people. The former gymnasium has been transformed into the perfect setting for spectators to enjoy “The Roaring Game”.
