2018 Winter Olympics Ice Hockey Venues

As the most mainstream sport on the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics event schedule, there’s bound to be a lot of interest in the Olympics Ice Hockey tournament. After all, the best players in the world – both professional and amateur – will be playing, and you’ll have an opportunity to see them hit the ice at two different locations over the entire length of the Games. The PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics Ice Hockey Venues were selected several years ago, with one – the Gangneung Hockey Centre – being a newly constructed facility and the other – the Kwandong Hockey Centre – having been added as a modification to an existing local arena.

Gangneung Hockey Centre

Located in the Gangneung Coastal Cluster along South Korea’s eastern seaboard, Gangneung Hockey Centre is a brand new ice hockey facility, with its construction just concluding in March 2017. While intimate by western standards, the Gangneung Hockey Centre seats 10,000 spectators, and the stadium itself is built around three large floors. A uniquely-modeled building, the arena is architecturally pleasant, designed with a solar-paneled roof Koreans and westerners alike are sure to appreciate. The Gangneung Hockey Centre will play host to a selection of Men’s and Women’s Olympic Ice Hockey tournament meetings.

Kwandong Hockey Centre

The other venue to host Men’s and Women’s Olympic Ice Hockey, the Kwandong Hockey Centre is an established facility in Gangneung, South Korea. Located at the Catholic Kwandong University, the Kwandong Hockey Center itself is newly constructed within the school’s existing gym. There is enough seating for 6000 spectators during the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics, and after the final ceremony, the Kwandong Hockey Centre will be used as a multi-purpose gymnasium for students of the institution.

Transportation To The 2018 Winter Olympics Ice Hockey Tournament

Since there are two different venues hosting all the ice hockey, transportation to the 2018 Winter Olympics Ice Hockey Tournament will vary depending on which event you’re going to watch. You can, of course, get to either via car, bus, or KTX. The Gangneung Hockey Centre and the Kwandong Hockey Centre are in reasonably close proximity to one another, so no matter your mode of travel, it’ll only take a few minutes to get to the arenas.

Traveling By Car

If you’re going to be traveling by car to the Gangneung Hockey Centre, simply type “North Gangneung Parking Lot,” “West Gangneung Parking Lot,” or “Gangneung Station Parking Lot” into your navigation system or GPS app, drive to one of those, park, and hop on a Spectator Shuttle Bus to the arena.

If you’re taking a car to the Kwandong Hockey Centre, you can search for the Kwandong Parking Lot in your GPS system, park there, and walk to the nearby Spectator Shuttle Bus stop, where you can catch a ride to the Kwandong facility.

Traveling By Bus

Traveling by bus to either the Gangneung Hockey Centre or Kwandong Hockey Centre is easy enough. Just take the service to the Gangneung Bus Terminal and then transfer over to one of the Spectator Shuttle Buses you’ll find waiting there.
